Youth opportunities in our communities
Rob Ford | Thursday, February 18, 2021

The COVID-19 pandemic has presented challenges everywhere and our youth are certainly no exception. The cancellation of 2021's Youth Tour and Touchstone Energy Camp are but two of many missed opportunities. However, many other opportunities are still available. Here are a few you may want to share with the young people you know.

LAUNCH(ED) WOMEN IN TECHNOLOGY CONFERENCE

This online program for middle-school girls is designed to inspire an interest in STEM. Two FREE virtual workshops focused on design thinking and coding are available for girls in grades 5-8.

FEMA YOUTH PREPAREDNESS COUNCIL

Each year, FEMA selects students from across the country to serve on the Youth Preparedness Council (YPC). The goal of the council is to develop young leaders who are interested in disaster preparedness and making a difference in their communities. Those selected are on the council for two years and get to attend the YPC Summit in DC. For 2021, everything is virtual but is expected to be in person in 2022. The council is open to students in grades 8 – 11. The application deadline is March 7.
