- Change in Water Heater Maintenance Program - Effective February 1, 2010, Tipmont REMC will no longer provide maintenance or repair of electric water heaters. Members who participate in Tipmont REMC’s Load Management Program have a switch installed on their water heater to allow the cooperative to “control” the water heater for short periods of time. This allows Tipmont to lower our system’s energy usage during peak hours. As an incentive for participation, Tipmont offers rebates for new electric water heaters and provides one water heater repair kit per year for each location where a load management switch is installed. Water heater repair kits include two thermostats, two elements, and an information booklet. Repair kits are available at the Linden business office during normal business hours. (Tipmont REMC may ask to inspect the load management switch when a water heater repair kit is requested.)

Water Heater Rebates
$50 rebate ...up to 80 gallon electric water heater *
$100 rebate ...80 gallon or larger electric water heater
(* minimum eligible size for rebate is 40 gallon for a multi-unit dwelling and 50 gallon for a single family home or business)
To qualify for account credit rebate, you must be a member of Tipmont REMC and meet the following requirements:
- Purchase and install an energy efficient electric water heater
- Energy efficiency rating must be at least 92%
- Provide valid proof of purchase and proof of energy efficiency rating within 30 days of purchase
- Allow Tipmont REMC to install a load management switch on the water heater
- Or allow Tipmont REMC to inspect the existing load management switch
Tipmont REMC will:
- Verify purchase, installation and energy efficiency rating of the electric water heater
- Install or inspect a load management switch
- Provide, asneeded,one water heater repair kit per yearfor each location with a load management switch installed
- After all requirements are met, Tipmont REMC will provide therebate as a one-time credit on the member'selectric account
Tipmont REMC does not provide maintenance on electric water heaters. Member is responsible for purchase, installation, maintenance and repair of electric water heater.
Heat Pump Rebates
$150 rebate ...14-15.5 SEER
$300 rebate ...16-16.5 SEER
$450 rebate ...17 SEER or higher
To qualify for account credit rebate, you must be a member of Tipmont REMC and meet the following requirements:
- Purchase and install an energy efficient electric heat pump
- Provide valid proof of purchase andproof of energy efficiency ratingwithin 30 days of installation
- Allow Tipmont REMC to complete an inspection of the equipment and installation
- Tipmont recommends completion of the Energy Star Heating & Air Conditioning Installation Bid Comparison Checklist (available from Tipmont REMC or at www.energystar.gov/ia/products/heat_cool/HVAC_QI_bidsheet.pdf)

- Complete an inspection of the equipment and installation

Geothermal Heat Pump Rebates
$500 rebate ...geothermal HVAC system
To qualify for account credit rebate, you must be a member of Tipmont REMC and meet the following requirements:
- Purchase and install a geothermal HVAC system
- Provide valid proof of purchasewithin 30 days of installation
- Allow Tipmont REMC to complete an inspection of the equipment and installation
